Edmund’s Notebook 5: History

Image: A Young Scholar, Tyne & Wear Archives; Museums

A poem, written in the style of Alam Beets:

I never had a history
I never had a past.Nowhere to come from
Nowhere to go.
I was just me,
Born in the middle
Of my life.

But now I have a Past, and a Path.
I have places to go and things to do.I have people who think things
About who I am.
And I wonder
If I wasn’t better off

It was certainly calmer.
